This part checks all of the boxes one would want when designing a replacement starter.  It is almost half the weight of the original Lucas starters (16lb 2oz for the OE Lucas, 8lb 8oz for this gear reduction unit).   This starter is also an extremely efficient modern gear reduction type starter that uses few cranking amps from the battery, yet produces greater torque to turn the engine over.  And finally, this starter design is more reliable having been developed and proven in use in Japanese vehicles for the past two decades.
